Switch Crystal

The Switch Crystal is a special Temple of the Portals device that serves the function of triggering certain events in its vicinity. Appearing as an blue-colored and enlongated object, humming, hovering and rotating at a static altitude, it has two of its faces adorned with a sword symbol.

Gameplay[]

The Switch Crystal is an interactable object, that acts as a toggle for different events, depending on the Crystal in question. Its operation is simple: it just needs to be shot. Upon hit, a Switch Crystal emits a flash of blue light, as well as an unique sound chime. Some Switch Crystals activate various traps to aid the Gladiator in combat against heavy enemy numbers, whereas others serve as means to access new areas. A hit Switch Crystal turns yellow and becomes inert for a period of time, not responding to further hits until it reverts to its regular idle state.

Whereas a Switch Crystal is typically best targeted with a long-ranged weaponry such as the HMG or the Railgun, it may also be affected by splash damage. This may cause the Crystal to be triggered by an accident, so be mindful of what weapons you are going to use near one.

All traps triggered by the Switch Crystals registers the world as instigator and thus players can only farm resources from the monsters currently targeting them, this also does not guarantee that specific traps are safe to use while allies are nearby it, like crushers or lethal pits.
